On Tuesday January 18th, 2011 members of the Springfield No One Leaves Coalition and Springfield Bank Tenants Association traveled through the snow to join residents and activists from throughout Massachusetts for a statewide lobby day for foreclosure rights! The lobby day was organized by the Mass Alliance Against Predatory Lending (MAAPL). Springfield Bank Tenants represented families throughout Springfield facing foreclosure and eviction, met with legislators and aides from the Springfield area, shared testimony and asked our representatives to support new legislation that would:
- Require Mandatory Mediation with Judicial Review between homeowners and banks prior to foreclosure
- Preventing Unnecessary Vacancies in Foreclosed Homes by enabling homeowners to stay in their homes as tenants after foreclosure if they are able to do so
- Require banks to provide Clarification of Ownership in Evictions from foreclosed homes
- Enact Judicial Foreclosure in Massachusetts.
