New Road Network Calls for Strengthened Foreclosure Legislation at the Democratic State Convention

On Saturday June 2, 2012 members of the NEW ROAD network (www.NewRoad.us) – a regional network of 9 New England cities organizing resistance to foreclosure, eviction & displacement – held a press conference outside of the Democratic State Convention. They called on the Mass. State Senate to pass amendments to Senate Bill S2287 that prevent unnecessary vacancies by allowing occupants to pay rent after foreclosure, mandate mediation with a neutral 3rd-party mediator before a bank can foreclose, and expand the scope of the current bill to include all homeowners.

You can take action to stand up for STRONG foreclosure protections today!
Call your State Senator to urge them to support these three amendments!

  • An amendment to prevent unnecessary vacancies by ending no-fault evictions after foreclosure – if an occupant can pay rent, the bank has to accept rent after foreclosure as long as they own the property.
  • An amendment for mandatory mediation before foreclosure.
  • An amendment extending coverage of the original bill to all homeowners facing foreclosure.

SPRINGFIELD SENATORS:

Senator Gale C. Candaras – 617-722-1291 (Statehouse Office)

Senator Jim Welch – 413-737-7756
