Exciting news and a message from our brother Jose Mendez:
Last night I shared very exciting news with the members of the Springfield Bank Tenant Association!
Just one week following the eviction blockade that we organized to defend my family against eviction, Aurora Bank contacted me offering to begin negotiations on a solution that would keep me and my family in our home and to tell me that they would not be proceeding with the eviction!
CUANDO LUCHAMOS, GANAMOS! WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN!
Less than two weeks ago, Aurora’s refusal to accept rent and negotiate forced us to mobilize an eviction blockade to defend against a no-fault unnecessary eviction! Now following that blockade Aurora has not only decided not to evict, but they are willing to negotiate a solution with our family. In this experience the saying is true: EL PUEBLO UNIDO, JAMAS SERA VENCIDO! THE PEOPLE UNITED, WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED!
Last night we celebrated this big victory, but my family and I know that this fight is not over. I urged our new members and veteran members to keep up the fight! We know that at the end of the tunnel there is light, but to win this war against the banks, we must stick together and we must stay in our homes and resist evictions and foreclosures!
My family and I are committed to fighting together with the rest of the SBTA to demand economic justice for our communities, and we know that hundreds of families are going to be there standing with us.
Can you make a donation today to stand with my family and hundreds of other Springfield families fighting back against the big banks?
We’ve forced Aurora Bank to negotiate, but we’ll remain ready to put pressure on Aurora to give us a fair deal to stay in our home! In the coming week’s we’ll be hosting a cookout to celebrate our victories and build community for the future, we hope you can join us.
En la lucha,
